Aurorae Borealis & Geminids Meteor Shower 2015
 in Iceland

While the solar activity is still strong, I’ll spend a week in Iceland, mid-December 2015 around the Geminids meteor shower and New Moon, to observe aurorae borealis.

The Geminids will peak between December 13 and 14. A waxing crescent Moon will create good conditions for viewing the shower. The shower owes its name to the constellation Gemini from where the meteors seem to emerge from in the sky. Northern Hemisphere observers should try their luck right after sunset, while those in the Southern Hemisphere should try to catch the shower after midnight. The Geminids can be observed from locations all around the world. While it is not necessary to look in a particular direction to enjoy a meteor shower, I suggest looking towards the south in the direction the Castor and Pollux stars.
