, the Jafarah plain is closed by a mountainous arc range stretching from Tunisia to the city of Khoms. In its western part, from Nalut to Gharyan, this arc range is the Djebel Nafusah, a high cliff of 600 to 900 meters overlooking the plain.<br>The djebel Nafusah was, already during the 8<font size="-2"><sup>th</sup></font> century, the sanctuary of the Berbers fleeing the arabic invaders. In the djebel, language, religion, customs, clothing and architecture are Berber.<br>Nalut is the big Berber city of the djebel. The city is located where the Ghadames-Tripoli track runs into the Jafarah plain. Located at the edge of the cliff, the city occupies a strategic position, overlooking the plain and the winding access road.', 'en', 1);)
