Using a BU-353 USB GPS with SEM [Case Solved]

Postby mstriebeck » Sun Aug 13, 2017 8:47 am

Hi,

Is anybody using a USB-based GPS - and especially the BU-353 USB GPS - with SEM? I am trying to connect mine, but with no luck :-(

Did you select it in the serial device configuration dialog?

I guess Mark didn't select the GPS unit in the serial configuration dialog and just plugged the unit onto the USB bus. This does work but only for Garmin units having the proprietary PVT protocol. Other units send NMEA 0183 and have to use the serial implementation.

Don't worry abut this, SEM is compensating with a time offset. Do make sure you let the GPS unit run for at least 12.5 minutes so that the complete almanac is downloaded and the best time accuracy can be achieved.
