Canon 5D can't operate through Maestro [Case Solved]

Postby conemmil » Sun Sep 30, 2012 6:52 pm

Hello Mr. Javier,

I'm trying to run Eclipse Maestro with two Canon 5D cameras. So far I wasn't able to start even a single camera run because the software doesn't recognize the camera correctly. What it does, is that when I go to Hardware Configuration window, it refreshes the correct camera every 1 second until it crashes. Push shutter works but not as it supposed since its like working if I press it on the second that the camera is found. I can operate the camera with the EOS software from Canon and I have checked in Image Capture that No application is on. Here is the crash file:

Re: Canon 5D can't operate through Maestro

Very strange, but I know the 5D is a tricky camera, as it's in its own category called Legacy by Canon. Among the Legacy cameras you'll the 350D, 20D/20Da and 5D.

First please make sure that in the menus on the 5D you select 'PC connect' or 'Normal' instead of 'PTP' or 'Print/PTP'.
Second try to use an empty memory card.
Third try to rename the Canon Utilities folder located in your Applications folder. The Canon software often launches in the background and grabs control of any connected camera. The easiest way to stop this behavior is to rename the Canon Utilities folder.

Then launch SEM and open the Hardware Configuration window. Now connect and power up the 5D. What do you see?

Can you also send me the Solar Eclipse Maestro Log (look in the Help menu for the Solar Eclipse Maestro Log item).

SEM 1.8.3 to be released around October 26 will bring back full support of Canon's legacy cameras, namely 350D, 20D/20Da and 5D. There will be two versions:
- one Universal Binary, running on Tiger up to Mountain Lion, to support all the Nikon cameras (D70 to D600) and Canon cameras from the 350D to the 60D,
- another Intel only, running on Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion, to support all the Nikon cameras (D70 to D600) and Canon cameras from the 1D Mark III to the 1D X (no support of Canon's legacy cameras).

I'm just trying the two 5Ds that are gonna be working with Maestro and they both run smoothly with no problems. I think that the software runs much faster than other eclipse like software. The response is ultra fast with no lags!

I can see the serial numbers of the camera references and I think that now everything works as its supposed to!

Many thanks for this excellent support.
