This is because the D600 is too slow. I have one as well. We figured out that the D600 (and other cameras of this generation) can only shoot one photo about every two seconds. Even though it can do 5.5 fps if you're holding the shutter release. It has something to do with the USB controller in the camera. I'm renting a pair of D500's now.
